Gymnastics Canada – OTTAWA, ON (October 1, 2018) – Gymnastics Canada is pleased to announce that Ian Moss has been named the CEO of Gymnastics Canada following a comprehensive selection process.

Moss joined Gymnastics Canada in June 2017 as the High Performance Director (HPD), and added the title of Interim CEO in May of 2018. He has led seven different national sport organizations at both the management (CEO/Executive Director (ED)) and technical (HPD) levels, including as the ED for Rowing Canada from 2005 to 2009, and CEO for Speed Skating Canada from 2013 to 2017. He was also the Director of National Sport Federation Services with the Canadian Olympic Committee from 2010 to 2012.

“I am very thankful for the staff, board, and member support I received over the last three months in my role as Interim CEO that helped me realize even more the opportunity and potential that exists within this organization” said Moss. “I am very pleased and excited to continue in my new role as we build towards GCG becoming a ‘best in class’ organization. For the short term, my responsibilities as HPD will remain but we will address the high performance leadership needs critically in the next while to ensure that we design the best possible structure to ensure success in our preparation and performance expectations for Tokyo 2020.”

There has also been a change to the GCG Board of Directors – Dr. Lynn Smith has stepped down from her role as Chair for personal reasons, and William Thompson has now assumed leadership of the Board.

Thompson brings a wealth of leadership experience to the Board – he was formerly the CEO of Skate Canada from 2006 to 2012, has served on numerous not-for-profit boards, and is currently a corporate law Partner at Robson Carpenter LLP.

“I am very excited to assume this position with the organization,” said Thompson. “We have a dedicated board of directors that are focused on improving the governance of the organization heading into the future. The addition of Ian as CEO immensely strengthens the leadership within GCG with his vast experience in Canadian sport. I very much look forward to working in partnership with the board, Ian, and the staff at GCG, as we collectively grow the sport of gymnastics in Canada.”
