Halifax Swimmers Rule the Pool On Day Two of the 2016 Canadian Age Group National Championships
Swim Nova Scotia – Calgary, AB– The Halifax Trojan Aquatic Club ruled the pool during the second day of competition at the 2016 Canadian Age Group National Championships in Calgary, where they had five swimmers on the podium and three new Nova Scotia Provincial Records.
Jade Hannah captured her third gold medal of the swim meet tonight in the women’s 14-year-old 50m Backstroke, along with a 13-14 Nova Scotia Long Course Provincial Record in a time of 29.05. During the preliminaries Jade broke the record with a time of 29.28.
Isabel Sarty and Sarah Polley finished second and third in the women’s 17-year-old 100m Freestyle with times of 57.48 and 57.58 respectively. Sarty, Polley and Hannah were joined by teammate Madison Archer to set a new 15-17 Provincial Record in the women’s 4 x 200m Freestyle Relay with a time of 8:42.74 where they finished sixth.
On the men’s side, the 400m Individual Medley saw two silver medals from Nicholas Bourbonniere in the men’s 14-year-old age group with a personal best time of 4:51.57 and teammate Alec Karlsen in the men’s 17-year-old age group with a personal best time of 4:34.92.
Approximately 750 young swimmers from across Canada continue to compete at the Talisman Centre through to July 31st. There are a total of 20 swimmers from across Nova Scotia competing in the event.
Daily competition starts at 9:00am local time for preliminaries and 5:30pm local time for finals. The open water events start at 9am August 1st; race distances include 2.5km and 5km.
