Gymnastics Canada – MARKHAM, ON – September 15, 2019 – Gymnastics Canada is pleased to announce a new partnership with the Markham Pan Am Centre that will see their world-class sport complex become the official training centre for our rhythmic gymnastics national team athletes and coaches.

The Markham Pan Am Centre offers space to train elite athletes, as well as house regional, national, and international sporting events. Significant space within the facility will be dedicated for Gymnastics Canada’s high-performance individual and group rhythmic gymnasts to train, and will be fully equipped with appropriate flooring, as well as other equipment useful for training.

“We are very grateful for this opportunity to work with the City of Markham on a customized training environment for our rhythmic athletes,” said Ian Moss, CEO of Gymnastics Canada. “It is important that the legacy of the 2015 Pan Am/Parapan Am Games in Markham continue, and that we can contribute to this facility’s legacy with the creation of this permanent high- performance training centre for rhythmic gymnastics.”

“Markham is home to many great and accomplished athletes. We are a global sports destination and we are proud to welcome Gymnastics Canada to the Markham Pan Am Centre, which is a world-class facility hosting countless international and national championships,” said Markham Mayor Frank Scarpitti. “This is an exciting new partnership where we will nurture and grow the next generation of talented athletes.”

The announcement of this new partnership was unveiled today at the Markham Pan Am Centre by Ian Moss, as part of the City’s Markham Sports Day celebrations – an annual signature sporting event that builds community, celebrates the power of sport, and strengthens our national spirit while facilitating healthy, active living.
