Canada Wrestling – GUELPH, Ont. – Wrestlers from around the world are gathering in Guelph, Ont., to attend the Canada Cup.
 
There are 120 athletes expected to compete including wrestlers from Canada, USA, Russia, China, Mongolia, Benin and Algeria. Many of Canada’s top wrestlers will be attending, such as 2018 Senior World Championships team members Erica Wiebe, Jessie MacDonald and Diana Weicker.
 
The event will take place July 7 at the W.F. Mitchell Athletics Centre at the University of Guelph.
 
Wrestling Canada Lutte will also be hosting the 2018 World Team Non-Olympic Weight Trials on Friday, July 6. The Trials will be used as a ranking event for the four men’s and four women’s non-Olympic weight categories.
 
The Canada Cup of International Wrestling was initiated in the fall of 1980 by the Federal Government to provide Canada’s wrestlers with an alternative to the boycotted Olympic Games held in Moscow. The first host of this premier event was Lakehead University located in Thunder Bay, Ontario and featured the national teams of Canada, Hungary, Japan and USA. 1998 saw the addition of a women’s division for the 1st time in the tournament’s history.
