Freestyle Canada’s Slopestyle Athletes Wrap up the World Championships in Sierra Nevada, Spain

Freestyle Canada – Sierra Nevada, Spain, March 20, 2017—Freestyle Canada’s slopestyle team was closing off the two-week long World Championships today in Sierra Nevada. Things looked promising after a great qualification run by all four Canadian men. Unfortunately they were unable to convert and land themselves on the podium on this final day.
 
Alex Bellemare was the top Canadian, finishing in seventh position with a score of 83.60. “The competition was definitely a little scary. The course itself wasn’t too bad, as it was well built. It was the wind combined with the size of the jumps that made it gnarly. It ended up throwing off your trajectory… I had to switch up my run a little bit,” stated Bellemare, who had a third place finish earlier this season at the Font Romeu World Cup.
 
Teammate Alex Beaulieu-Marchand, who had qualified first with a score of 94.60, also faced some challenges in the final and was unable to replicate his earlier success on the course. Nevertheless, Alex had a strong year, taking bronze at the 2017 Aspen X Games and at the Quebec City World Cup. A veteran of the slopestyle team, Alex will look to keep growing his bag of tricks over the summer months.
 
Teal Harle seemed to find his comfort level on the World Cup circuit this season. Two weeks ago, he claimed his first ever World Cup victory in Silvaplana, Switzerland. 
 
Alex Beaulieu-Marchand, Teal Harle and Evan McEachran finished 11^th  13^th and 14^th respectively in today’s World Championships final. 
 
On the women’s side, Anouk Purnelle-Faniel, who finished third in the Font Romeu World Cup was the top Canadian at the event with a 10^th place finish. This was Anouk’s first ever World Championships. Teammates Yuki Tsubota and Kim Lamarre finished 13^th and 26^th respectively.
