Freesyle Canada – Cardrona, NZ, September 4, 2018 – The Canadian slopestyle team starts its season the same way it ended the last one: with a FIS Big Air World Cup. This time, the athletes are on the other side of the planet in Cardrona, New Zealand; the seven Freestyle Canada skiers compete tomorrow in the first of five Big Air contests scheduled for 2018-2019.
 
It all starts with a two-jump qualification round to narrow the field to six women and 10 men, who will then compete in a three-jump final on Friday where the best two jumps are counted towards a cumulative score for the season’s first medal-winners.
 
Big Air is, without a doubt, one of the most spectacular of all freestyle skiing events. Having debuted on the World Cup circuit in 2015-2016, it now finds itself listed as an official sport at the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing. Until then, expect to see the athletes spend more time honing their skills in this new Olympic cycle.
