FOUR TOP-TEN CANADA SKI CROSS FINISHES
Alpine Canada – Calgary, Alta. (January 14, 2018) – The Canada Ski Cross team had their second of two races in Idre Fjall, SWE today and four Canadians captured top-ten finishes including Georgia Simmerling (North Vancouver, B.C.), Kelsey Serwa (Kelowna, B.C.), Britt Phelan (Mont-Tremblant, Que.) and Chris Del Bosco (Montreal, Que./ Vail, CO).
Nine Canadians qualified to start today and Del Bosco led the men’s team’s results with an eighth-place finish. It was a tough battle all day in heats on a difficult track.
Del Bosco and Brady Leman (Calgary, Alta.) were in the same 1/8 final and quarterfinal heats. In the quarterfinals, veteran Del Bosco made some great passes at the bottom of the track to win that heat. Unfortunately, teammate Leman was knocked out in that round, unable to advance to the semi-finals.
In the semi-finals, Del Bosco trailed. Despite making a great pass near the end of the course, it wasn’t enough to move him into the big final. In the small final, Del Bosco closed out the day with an eighth-place finish. This is his second top-ten finish of the season, including a first-place finish from the Val Thorens, FRA race in December.
Ian Deans (Lake Country, B.C.), Dave Duncan (London, Ont.) and Kevin Drury (Toronto, Ont.) also qualified for today’s final but did not move past the 1/8 final round.
The International Ski Federation (FIS) cancelled the ladies’ race due to high wind conditions. Results were awarded based on Friday’s qualification run. Simmerling finished in fourth-place, Serwa in fifth-place, Phelan in seventh-place and India Sherret (Cranbrook, B.C.) in 11th-place.
The FIS Freestyle Ski Cross circuit now heads to Canada for the last World Cup race before the 2018 Olympic Winter Games. Nakiska Ski Area in Alberta will host the final race, giving Team Canada a home snow advantage. For event information, click here.
