Granby, July 25, 2017 – After rain washed out play on Monday, several Canadians were in action Tuesday on the Saint-Luc tennis courts in Granby. Of the seven on the schedule, four advanced to the second round of the $160,000 Granby National Bank Challenger which is being played from July 24-30.
 
One of Tuesday’s feature matches was an all-Canadian encounter between Peter Polansky and Frank Dancevic. Polansky, who was a finalist in both Winnipeg and Gatineau, defeated his compatriot and former world no. 65 7-6(4), 7-6(9). The new world no. 118 will next face Alejandro Gonzalez of Colombia who defeated Canadian Filip Peliwo in the opening round.
 
For his part, Brayden Schnur joined Polansky in round two thanks to a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Japan’s Yusuke Takahashi. He will go up against third-seeded Go Soeda of Japan on Thursday. Philp Bester was defeated 6-4, 6-4 by Yasutaka Uchiyama.
 
In the women’s action, top-seeded Canadian Bianca Andreescu was a 6-3, 6-2 winner over Aussie Kimberly Birrell in her opening match and will meet her compatriot Katherine Sebov for a place in the quarter-finals. Sebov advanced following a 6-4, 6-4 triumph over Japan’s Mai Minokoshi. Carol Zhao was defeated by Tammi Patterson on Australia.  
 
Wednesday’s evening session in Granby will feature both Gatineau champions. Denis Shapovalov will take on Aussie qualifier Marinko Matosevic starting at 6:30 p.m. followed by Aleksandra Wozniak against fellow Quebecer Charlotte Robillard-Millette.
