Freestyle Canada – Montreal, July 12, 2017 – In January 2018, the world’s top freestyle skiers, and the fans who follow them, will have a new destination to visit this season. Freestyle Canada has finalized an agreement that makes Tremblant Resort the host of the FIS Freestyle Ski World Cup for the next five years. The relocation is intended to help the organization position itself favourably on the sports scene in Canada.

The move marks the end of a long-time World Cup event hosting partnership with the Val St-Côme.ski centre. “Val Saint-Côme was an important partner for the FIS Freestyle Ski World Cup, but the venue no longer met the requirements of our main partners and FIS,” explained Bruce Robinson, CEO of Freestyle Canada. “We believe this change will inject new energy into freestyle skiing in Quebec and generate new opportunities for Freestyle Canada.” Although Tremblant becomes the official venue of the World Cup, Val St-Côme, with its Centre d’Excellence, remains an important Freestyle Canada partner. Skiers on the national and development teams will continue to use the current venue for training and all levels of competition below World Cup including FIS Nor-Am competitions.

For its part, the Mont Tremblant Resort executive team is delighted by the prospect of hosting the world’s best freestyle athletes and confident that all conditions are in place to make the event a success. “The quality of our facilities and the expertise of our staff, both on the mountain and in the pedestrian village, will be of benefit not only to the athletes but also to their families and the organizing committee,” said Patrice Malo, President and CEO of Mont-Tremblant Resort. “We think these assets will contribute to international promotion of the event while nurturing the aspirations of young, local athletes, who can develop and train with us. It is all in line with our core mission and values.”

The Tremblant Freestyle FIS World Cup takes place next January 20 on the Flying Mile run on the mountain’s south side. Along with being an excellent vantage point for spectators, the run has the elevation required for a challenge of this scale. It is worth mentioning that Tremblant hosted World Cup moguls and aerials competitions from 1996 to 2005 inclusively.

The 2018 edition will be the last event before we announce which athletes will be heading to the Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
