Canadian FreeStyle Ski Association – Mammoth, California – The 2016 Visa U.S. Grand Prix at Mammoth Mountain was plagued by poor weather conditions, but that did not prevent Whistler slopestyle skier Yuki Tsubota from winning her first World Cup.

« It was a very long day but I couldn’t have hoped for a better ending », said Yuki Tsubota. « There were wind issues out here today so I went for a run that I knew I could nail. I have been working on new tricks on the rails for some time to increase my level of difficulty. In the end, that paif off »

Jean-François Cusson, technical coach for the Slopestyle team had this to say about today’s event : « The weather conditions were really bad and all the training sessions had to be cancelled because of the wind. Some athletes even chose not to compete for that reason so we had to go for safe and very strategic runs to get the girls qualified for finals. »

Yuki Tsubota (Whistler, BC), Kim Lamarre (Lac-Beauport, QC) and Nikki Blackall (Barrie, ON) all made it to finals.

On the men’s side, the Canadian Slopestyle team was represented by Evan McEachran. Although he finished ninth in the overall rankings, the Oakville skier landed his first ever triple jump in competition.

« Overall, I am happy with my run and landing this triple in the last jump was huge for me. I went for a run with a high degree of difficulty, unfortunately I made a small mistake at the top and that cost me », said Evan.

A total of 14 Canadian Freestyle Ski Team members competed in the four-day event.

Due to poor weather conditions, the Men’s Halfpipe finals were cancelled and only qualifications counted. Noah Bowman finished 9th.
