Freestyle Canada ​- Last chance to see Canada’s moguls skiers in action – Mont-Tremblant, Quebec, January 18, 2018 – Tremblant is where fans can catch the world’s best freestyle skiers in action as they compete for the last time before the Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang. The FIS World Cup presented by Toyota takes place January 20 on the South Side in the Flying Mile run, ideal for an event of this importance.

“I remember when I was a kid, I couldn’t wait to see the World Cup in Tremblant. Those were my first World Cup experiences as a spectator, and this year we finally get the chance to compete in Tremblant. I think it’s going to be a lot of fun!” said Mikaël Kingsbury, who’s happy to be skiing on home soil before hitting the road for a several-week trip, first stop in South Korea. “This will be our last stop before the Olympics, so I hope there will be tons of people there to cheer us on.” Like Kingsbury, who already has his ticket to the planetary sporting event, Justine Dufour-Lapointe is also looking forward to skiing at home. “It’s always great to ski in front of family, friends, and fans, because they give us so much energy. We hear them cheering at the starting gate and it pushes us to give our all. It’s really fortunate that we can be in Quebec for our last event before the Games; it will give us a little boost!” said the Sochi gold medalist. Competitor Andi Naude is also on the roster for PyeongChang; these will be her first Olympics. The athletes joining this trio in South Korea will be announced on January 22 by the Canadian Olympic Committee.
 
Moguls skiing this year returns to Tremblant, a venue that hosted the aerials and moguls World Cups from 1996 to 2005, inclusively. “Having the World Cup back in Tremblant brings back some great memories!” said Pierre-Alexandre Rousseau, winner of the Tremblant World Cup in 2003. “Supporters, families and friends always make a point of spending the weekend in this festive gathering place with an amazing, super-charged atmosphere. As a skier, I often dreamed of competing on Versant Sud near the village, and this year it has become a reality for the current generation of competitors.”
 
Freestyle Canada has struck an agreement with Mont Tremblant Resort, making it the host venue for the next five years in a move that will help the organization position itself favourably on the sports scene in Canada. A number of activities are scheduled throughout the weekend to give the general public an idea of what moguls skiing is all about. “Tremblant Resort is the perfect place to hold an event of this magnitude, and we believe it will be an excellent showcase for the sport and our athletes,” said Marc Monchamp, director of the organizing committee of the Tremblant World Cup. “Along with the activities being organized for Freestyle Canada alumnae – to which the public is invited – the medals ceremony at Place Saint-Bernard will be a warm and convivial event.” The competition weekend will end at the Le P’tit Caribou on Saturday evening with the World Cup party starting at 9:00 p.m.
 
Access to the course on Saturday
Spectators who wish to access the competition site, at the top of the Flying Mile run, have two options.
 
Pedestrian path (free access):
A pedestrian corridor with signage will be created. Fans on foot are required to take the dedicated lanes from the south base to the top of the Flying Mile run. Walking time is about 30 to 45 minutes (900 metres) and snowshoes or crampons are strongly recommended for everyone’s safety.
 
Flying Mile lift (paid access):
Skiers and boarders may purchase a ticket (valid for the Flying Mile lift only) at the ticket office at a cost of $17.73, plus taxes and resort tax.
 
Spectators may also watch the competition live on the giant screens at Place Saint-Bernard.
 
Sunday: Open Moguls day
The day after the World Cup, the public is invited to meet the national team’s athletes at the Open Moguls day, to be held underneath the Flying Mile lift (South Side base). This will be an opportunity for those interested in learning the basics of skiing moguls and to collect some photos and autographs. The free activity runs from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
