Figure skating – Canada’s Les Suprêmes place fourth at ISU World Junior Synchronized Skating Championships
ZAGREB, Croatia – Les Suprêmes from St-Léonard, Que., took fourth place on Saturday at the ISU World Junior Synchronized Skating Championships.
Junost from Russia won the gold medal with 174.58 points, Skyliners from the U.S. were second at 169.82, Crystal Ice from Russia third at 167.14 and Les Suprêmes followed at 162.99, a two-spot improvement on last year’s performance.
The Suprêmes skaters were Amelia Asparian, Agnes Astrom, Camile Ceneston, Loriana Cocca, Alice Cormier, Alice Côté, Jade Deschenes, Olivia Di Giandomenico, Victoria Gligorijevic, Giulia Hart-Lewis, Nea-Nora Hyyppa, Jessica Iacono, Astrid Kumpulainen, Grace LeTouzel, Maude Major, Élise Potvin, Olivia Ronca, Julia Spilak, Anne-Laurence Trudeau and Sarah Verville.
‘’We are just really proud of everything we’ve accomplished,’’ said Jessica Iacono. ‘’We just went out there and did our job and trusted in our training. We stayed calm and focused on what we had to do.’’
Nexxice from Burlington, Ont., was eighth. The skaters for Nexxice were: Avery Clark, Molly Coxon, Abbey Glumpak, Sarah Hayman, Amanda Kauffman, Elizabeth McKenna, Mya Napier, Madeleine North, Tegan Orr, Desiree Perry, Julia Polowy, Nitika Rattanpal, Carolina Rodriguez, Joseline Simmons, Natalia Solarino, Scarlet Panning-Stinson, Emily Van Berkel and Milja Wilamo.
‘’It’s definitely hard for any group of athletes to come together after a performance they knew wasn’t their best,’’ said Joseline Simmons referring to Friday’s short program. ‘’But our team has had such an amazing bond through everything we’ve been through. We are so proud of each other and our skate tonight. We skate our best when we skate for ourselves and for the love of skating.
‘’That’s what we did tonight and it really showed.’’
