Senator Nancy Greene Raine —Senator Nancy Greene Raine to host unique lunch hour on The Hill, Feb. 15 at 12 noon—
OTTAWA—Parliament Hill will be transformed into a cross country ski venue for Federal Legislators on Wednesday, February 15, to promote National Health and Fitness Day and encourage Canadians to embrace winter.
Senator Nancy Greene Raine will be joined by fellow Senators, MPs, Ottawa youth, Olympians/Paralympians and volunteers from Cross Country Ski de fond Canada for a friendly nordic ski on the famed grounds in front of the Parliament buildings.
This unique event is being held in partnership with the Nakkertok Nordic Club and XC Ski Fast (skixcfast@nakkertok.ca) who will provide ski equipment to anyone wanting to try cross country skiing. The track will be groomed using the equipment that sets the new Sir John A MacDonald trail along the Ottawa River. www.wintertrail.ca @SJAMwintertrail
This event reflects programs Cross Country Ski de fond Canada runs with its partners in schoolyards across the country. Designed to introduce more children to the sport of cross country skiing while creating a more active Canada, organizers of Ski at School programs set tracks in schoolyards while providing equipment and coaching as part of the curriculum.
