Gymnastics Canada – WROCLAW, POL (July 25, 2017) – Jonathon Schwaiger and Jordan Sugrim, both from Dynamo Gymnastics Club in Cambridge, ON hit their personal best ranking during the World Games in Wroclaw, Poland today.

In men’s Double Mini-Trampoline (DMT), Schwaiger from Ancaster, ON had a rough preliminary round where he had to modify his dismount in both passes but managed to qualify for the top eight final in seventh place. In the final, Schwaiger scored 72.600 points to finish just off the podium in fourth place, giving him his best ever result in DMT at a major international event.

“I’m quite happy of my final performance and moving up three places,” said Schwaiger following competition. “Sitting in 3rd place and having to wait and see if Zalomin (Russia) would hit his pass was intense, but I guess it’s okay to be surpassed by a two-time World Champion.”

Team Canada coach Denis Vachon was pleased with Schwaiger’s results: “I’m really glad Jon got his best result at the most important competition of his life.” Schwaiger will also compete on Wednesday in the men’s Tumbling event.

In women’s Tumbling, Sugrim of Mississauga, ON qualified for finals in fifth place. In the finals, Sugrim put her best foot forward and completed two double somersaults in both passes but came up short of the podium finishing with 65.300 points in fifth place.

“I’m really happy with my performance at my first World Games,” said Sugrim. “I’ve been working for this specific competition for the last two years. Preliminaries went as expected, my goal was to qualify for finals and to complete two passes with two double somersaults because I knew most of the finalists were going to perform at this level.”

Vachon, who is also the personal coach to both Schwaiger and Sugrim, could not have been happier with Sugrim’s results: “I wanted to see Jordan compete at the World Games since she was 12 years old, as it was a long term plan. She’s never done a better job preparing for a competition, so I couldn’t be happier for her.”

Wednesday will be the final day of competition for Team Canada in Trampoline Gymnastics. In addition to Schwaiger competing in the men’s Tumbling competition, Tamara O’Brien of Coquitlam, BC will compete in women’s DMT.
