Freestyle Canada – The Ontario-born skier captures his first win at the event
Breckenridge, Colorado, December 15, 2018– Evan McEachran earned his first career victory in the men’s slopestyle finals at the Dew Tour on Saturday.

The 21-year-old Canadian athlete took the gold medal in the event, which comprised jump and jib components that each counted for 50 percent of the score, with 187.34 points. McEachran came in ahead of Alex Hall (184.00) and Henrik Harlaut (181.67).

He was in provisional first position with 94.00 points after his second run of the jib portion. He bettered that total in his final run, when the judges gave him 94.67 points, which handily beat out his competitors.

“Before the competition I thought I would score better in jumps rather than jib, but I guess they liked my choice of line,” said McEachran after the win. He came in second in the jump portion of the event.

“Though Henrik was skiing after me in the third run of the jib, I wasn’t worried. I knew I was making it to the podium and that was enough for me. This win is the icing on the cake. It’s incredible! I still can’t quite believe it. I’m really happy with my day.”

“Evan was stellar on two fronts in the jumps: with his multiple grabs – five in three jumps – and his two successive switch-14s,” declared his coach, Toben Sutherland.

Alex Beaulieu-Marchand of Quebec City finished fourth with 179.33 points after pulling off his best score in the jib (91.00) in the third run. Teal Harle of Campbell River, BC placed ninth, with a score of 154.33.

The fourth and last day of the Breckenridge Dew Tour is on Sunday and notably features the men’s modified halfpipe.
