Nova Scotia Golf Association – The former 2011 MCT Men’s Amateur Champion and two- time NSGA Junior Champion Eric Banks recently qualified to compete at the 116th U.S. Men’s Amateur Championship. The Truro native is a graduate of the University of Florida where he studied Business and played on the Gator’s Golf team. He is also a member of Team Canada amateur team. Eric is currently the 6th ranked amateur in Canada.

Banks won his sectional qualifier at Crestwood Country Club in Rehoboth, Massachusetts. Banks finished the two-round qualifier, with a five under par two round total of 66-71-137. The field consisted of over 60 top amateurs from across the United States, Banks of one of only two Canadians in the field. Banks competed in the 2015 U.S. Men’s Amateur at the Olympia Field Golf Club in Chicago, IL.

The 2016 U.S. Men’s Amateur Championship is being held at Oakland Hills Country Club in Michigan on August 15-21. Oakland Hills Country Club has hosted nine major championships in the past 92 years. Television coverage begins Wednesday August 17th.

Eric’s performance at the Freedom 55 Financial Open, a PGA Tour Canada event, earned him an exemption into the 2016 Canadian Amateur. Eric was the only amateur to make the cut at Point Gray Country Club in Vancouver. The Canadian Men’s Amateur is at The Royal Ottawa Golf Club in Gatineau from August 8-11. Eric’s sits in 318 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings.

In 2015, U.S. Amateur Champion, Bryson DeChambeau joined Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, Phil Mickelson and Ryan Moore as the only golfers to win the U.S. Amateur and the NCAA individual title in the same year. Tiger has three U.S. Amateur titles (1994-96) and Nicklaus has two (1959 & 1961).
