Diving Plongeon Canada  – Eight one-hour diving shows will air on RDS and RDS2 starting tomorrow

Ottawa, May 8, 2017 – Diving Plongeon Canada (DPC) is proud to continue its collaboration with RDS, Canada’s leading French language sports broadcaster. This year’s programming will include full coverage of the 2017 Canada Cup FINA Diving Grand Prix (Gatineau, QC) and the FINA/NVC Diving World Series (Windsor, ON), with the first show debuting tomorrow, May 9th at 9 p.m.

“Québec has a proud history of performance on the world stage in this sport going back to Sylvie Bernier’s gold medal at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles,” commented RDS’s Vice-President Production Domenic Vannelli. “From Sylvie to Annie Pelletier, to Alexandre Despatie and Emilie Heymans to today’s stars, Canadian divers are consistently on the podium. RDS is proud to showcase local talents for 25 years.”

As they have done since the lead up to the 2012 London Olympic Games, RDS will provide diving with extensive event coverage by airing four one-hour shows from both FINA events staged in Canada; eight premieres with repeat showings, for a total of 37 broadcasts minimum. The RDS shows will be hosted by sports reporter Sébastien Boucher along with Canada’s former FINA world diving champion and two-time Olympic medalist Alexandre Despatie.

“We’re very happy to continue our long-standing partnership with RDS,” said Penny Joyce, COO of DPC. “We’re excited to be on RDS’ networks so extensively this year and to have the opportunity to share our athletes’ performances and stories with a larger audience.”

RDS’ French coverage will feature Rio 2016 Olympians Jennifer Abel, two-time medalist Meaghan Benfeito, Pamela Ware, Philippe Gagné and Vincent Riendeau, as well as newcomers Mélissa Citrini-Beaulieu and Caeli McKay. Diving fans will also enjoy seeing Canada’s mixed synchro team in action, including the popular duo made of Abel and François Imbeau-Dulac.

Detailed broadcast schedules for RDS are available online at http://www.rds.ca/tele

Important funding to host these international events was received through grant programs from Sport Canada, the Government of Quebec, and the Government of Ontario.
