Greater Victoria Sports Hall of Fame – (Victoria, BC – December 11, 2018) The Greater Victoria Sports Hall of Fame is pleased to announce that Doug Henderson has joined its Board of Directors.

Henderson brings to the Board over 30 years of experience in the sports and recreation industry. Prior to his retirement in 2016 he was Director, Parks and Recreation with the District of Saanich where he was responsible for the planning and operations of the parks, recreation and golf course services. He has also held similar management positions with the Capital Regional District, the Township of Esquimalt, and the Town of Lacombe, AB.

An active volunteer, Henderson was Venue Chair, Artistic and Rhythmic Gymnastics during the 1994 Victoria Commonwealth Games. He served as Assistant Coach and on the Board of Directors with the Greater Victoria Minor Football Association, and has volunteered at golf tournaments including the Pacific Links Championship and the Toyota Junior World Golf Qualifier, both at Bear Mountain Resort.

“I have always felt that across all levels, sport is a vital component in the fabric of our communities,” says Henderson. “The GV Sports Hall of Fame recognizes wide ranging contributions and achievements in sport and I appreciate the opportunity to work with the Board in supporting its ongoing efforts.”

President Doug Jennings welcomes Henderson to the Board. “We are delighted to have Doug Henderson join our volunteer Board. His vast sports and recreation background and community involvement will assist us greatly in achieving our goals for 2019 and beyond.”

The other board members are: Robert Hope, Rick Leggett, Chris Graham, Tom Turnbull, Dave Erb, Lois Smith, Robert Bettauer, Cal Mackay, Fern Johnson, Louise Hodgson-Jones, Jim Swanson, Stacie Louttit, and Clint Hamilton. Each board member serves a three-year term.

The Greater Victoria Sports Hall of Fame recognizes and celebrate the outstanding performances and contributions of athletes, builders, officials and teams from Greater Victoria, who have brought distinction to themselves, their sport, community and country. Established in 1991, artifacts and displays of over 200 athletes, teams and builders can be seen at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre and in the Westin at Bear Mountain.
