Diving Canada – Mélodie Leclerc posts second top-10 at Youth Olympics

BUENOS AIRES – Mélodie Leclerc of Montreal earned her second top-10 finish this week in diving at the Youth Olympic Games placing ninth on women’s three-metre springboard.

Shan Lin of China completed a golden sweep of the individual events with the victory earning 505.50 points. Uliana Kliueva of Russia was second at 445.05 and Bridget O’Neil of the U.S. third at 439.60.

Leclerc, 16, said she was not originally scheduled to compete on three-metre and only learned two days ago after she placed seventh on 10-metre. She earned 400.90 in the final after scoring 406.45 in the prelims for seventh.

‘’There was some nervousness today but overall I think that probably helped me focus,’’ said Leclerc. ‘’I was pleased with how I performed here against such a strong field. I wasn’t too disappointed to drop in the standings in the final because my score was pretty similar.’’

Diving competition continues Tuesday with the men’s 10-m. Bryden Hattie of Victoria is Canada’s entry.
