Diving – Canada’s Elaena Dick sixth in final at FINA Grand Prix
 
ROSTOCK, Germany – Elaena Dick of Edmonton picked up where she left off last season with a strong international result on Friday at the season opening stop on the FINA Grand Prix diving circuit.
 
Dick, 19, reached the final on women’s 10-m tower and placed sixth with 283.40 points. Yajie Si of China took the gold with 361.90, Viviana Del Angel of Mexico was second at 349.10 and Lois Toulson of Britain third at 334.00.
 
Sarah Jodoin Di Maria of Montreal advanced to the semis and was ranked 12th overall.
 
In the preliminaries, Dick and Jodoin ranked 10th and 11th and Dick posted her best score of the day with a 320.60 in the semi to stand fourth overall at that point.
 
Last season Dick was one of Canada’s busiest and most successful divers. She capped her 2017 season with a gold on tower at the Junior Pan Am Championships scoring two perfect 10’s. She was also fourth on 10-m at the World University Games and swept gold on all three boards at the Canada Games.
 
Competition in Rostock continues on Saturday. Ethan Pitman of Edmonton and Laurent Gosselin-Paradis of Montreal are entered in the men’s 10-m synchro event.
