Diving Plongeon Canada  – Maxim Bouchard is nominated to represent Team Canada in diving at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games

OTTAWA, June 27th 2016 – Diving Canada is pleased to announce that FINA, the international federation for aquatic sports, has offered an additional Olympic quota place to Canada in the men’s 10-meter platform event. As the alternate for Rio 2016, Maxim Bouchard, a six-time national champion, is named to represent the country at the Games.

Maxim Bouchard (Saint-Constant, QC) has competed in several international events since 2014, including Commonwealth Games, Pan Am Games and World Championships. Last February, at the 2016 FINA Diving World Cup in Rio de Janeiro, Maxim Bouchard reached new heights when he finished 7th and unlocked an Olympic berth for Canada. This performance was the best international result on 10m by a Canadian man at a major event since Riley McCormick’s 9th place finish at the 2011 World Championships in Shanghai.

Maxim Bouchard will represent Canada alongside teammates Philippe Gagné (3m), Pamela Ware (3m / 3m synchro), Roseline Filion (10m / 10m synchro), Meaghan Benfeito (10m / 10m synchro), Jennifer Abel (3m / 3m synchro) and Vincent Riendeau (10m)

QUOTE FROM MAXIM BOUCHARD

“I couldn’t be more excited to be named on the Olympic team. I’ve been diving my whole life looking up to Olympians and aspiring to be one. Yet, it always seemed unattainable since only a handful of athletes makes it to the Olympic Games. Being named as a Team Canada member for this summer’s Olympic is such an honour.”

“It’s so much more than a dream coming true, it is an achievement that I couldn’t be more proud of especially since my accident in 2010. I never thought I would be able to reach this level of competition but with the support, love, and confidence of my team, coaches and most of all my family, I’ve managed to turn a near death experience into the most meaningful moment of my life: representing Canada at the Olympics.”
