Taekwondo Canada – The 2017 World Para Taekwondo Championships was held in London on October 19. A total of 257 athletes from 59 countries registered for the event which made it the biggest Para Taekwondo event ever held.

Anthony competed in the K43 M -61kg category and was drawn into the same half of the bracket as the top seeded athlete Bopha Kong.

Anthony showed pure dominance during his first fight against Nyssanbek Aidarbekov (KAZ) and eventually won the match by 51-33. He narrowly missed the final round 12: 19 to the top seeded Bopha Kong from France. Anthony took on Bopha with determination and applied quick punches and brilliant back kicks to his opponent. He fought smart and strong while being pressured by the sophisticated French fighter, and he walked off the mat with no regrets.

Anthony has trained hard for this game and he will never give up,” said Anthony’s coach Raymond Mourad. “We are not satisfied with the result because we know we have trained hard enough and we can go to the finals. I really believe that he can do it, maybe not today, but he will train harder to go further next time. That’s the game, either you win or you lose, you will learn to be better for the next time.

Taekwondo Canada would like to congratulate Anthony for bringing his first World Championship medal home after two unforgettable matches. His strong finish has also earned him vital qualification points for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. Next stop for Anthony will be the 2017 IWAS World Games, which will take place in Vila Real de Santo António, Portugal, from 30 November to 6 December 2017.
