Come and Try Rowing This Summer!
Rowing Canada Aviron – Rowing Canada Aviron (RCA) is excited to launch its new program, Come and Try, that is now available to clubs across the country. This program allows clubs and organizations to host drop-in events for first-time rowers in a supervised and safe setting for all participants.
“We’re thrilled to introduce this program to all rowing clubs, supporting more opportunities for Canadians to experience rowing in safe and fun environments,” said Terry Dillon, chief executive officer, RCA. “We have an active, strong and passionate community of rowers in Canada and sharing our sport comes easy. Introducing this program allows members and clubs to create events that promote that spirit and sense of fun that originally brought them into the sport. We’re looking forward to kids and adults getting their unforgettable first experience on the water this summer with a local Come and Try event!”
A Come and Try event is an opportunity for clubs to promote rowing within their communities, reaching out to people interested to introduce their programs and demonstrate the first steps of the sport. For the first time, clubs and organizations will be able to host non-members on the water at events where insurance coverage is guaranteed for all participants.
To host a Come and Try event, clubs will register their events in advance with RCA and submit a payment of $50 to receive insurance coverage for all participants. With the single fee, clubs can host as many participants at an event as attend.
For more information and to submit an application, please visit RCA’s Membership Registration page. When visiting this page, club administrators will be able to apply to host a Come and Try event and participants will be able to see available events.
This summer, RCA will celebrate the program launch with support from the ParticipACTION 150 Playlist on Saturday, July 15. For Canada’s 150th birthday, rowing was voted as one of the sports that gets Canadians moving across the country. RCA invites PRAs and clubs to promote how their members stay active with rowing – whether it’s with first-timers at a Come and Try event, experienced racers at a local regatta or the recreational athletes out for a row.
