Sport Manitoba – Manitoba’s Emma Gray rowed her way into the finals of the single and double sculls at Kenora Rowing Club and Manitoba’s female basketball team advanced past the quarterfinals on Day Four of competition at the Canada Summer Games. Team Manitoba baseball also concluded round-robin play today, securing top spot in their grouping and giving them an automatic berth in the semifinal.
 
Top spot in Group B was on the line between the Manitoba and Ontario baseball teams at Shaw Park. The host team won 3-2 in extra innings, making them the only province to finish round-robin play with a perfect record (5-0). Next, Manitoba will play Alberta – the top team in Group A – in the semifinal round on Thursday.
 
Manitoba’s male and female basketball teams each competed in quarterfinal action today. The female team prevailed in a tight battle with New Brunswick, 71-68. They will now advance to a semifinal matchup with Ontario tomorrow, 8 p.m. at Duckworth Centre. This playoff round game is scheduled to be broadcast live on TSN. The male basketball team lost their game with Alberta, which relegates them to a placing game with Saskatchewan tomorrow.
 
Both Manitoba’s male and female beach volleyball teams received their only round-robin losses from Ontario, and both teams will now see quarterfinal action against British Columbia tomorrow. On the male side, Manitobans Ben Hooker and Daniel Thiessen finished the round-robin with a 4-1 record. The pair will face British Columbia in quarterfinal action at 4:30 p.m. tomorrow. On the female side, twin competitors Josie and Kearley Abbott matched up with Ontario under the bright lights on TSN. Following a straight-set loss in that game, Manitoba moves on to face British Columbia tomorrow at 7 p.m.

A pair of female divers qualified for the final of the 3-metre springboard diving event tonight at Pan Am Pool. In the end, divers Alyssa Gauthier finished sixth and Mara George in eighth in the overall standings.
 
Manitoba’s female soccer team will miss out on the chance to play for a medal, losing their quarterfinal matchup with Alberta today by a 2-0 score. They will now play a placing game with Saskatchewan tomorrow, 4:30 p.m. at Ralph Cantafio Soccer Complex.  
 
After two days of qualifying heats in multiple rowing categories, Manitobans have advanced to the finals in six rowing races on Thursday and Friday. Manitoba will compete in the final of female single scull, double sculls, quadruple sculls, and rowing eight, along with male single scull and rowing four. Emma Gray, Manitoba flag bearer at Opening Ceremonies, will compete in female single, double, and quadruple sculls.
 
Playoff round action will heat up on Day Five of competition at Sargent Park Beach Volleyball Complex with both male and female teams in the quarterfinal. There is a one-day break in athletics tomorrow before a full slate of final events scheduled on Thursday and Friday. In total, Manitoba is scheduled to compete in five sports tomorrow.
