Sport Nova Scotia – Brooklyn Rutherford, Liam Moffat, Tarah Sawler, Oliver Pye and the Nova Scotia U19AA Ringette Team win Cleve’s Source for Sports Athlete of the Month honours

HALIFAX, NS (March 23, 2017) – February’s Cleve’s Source for Sports Female Individual Athlete of the Month honours have been awarded to Brooklyn Rutherford of Brookfield. Competing in the kumite Individual Female U21 +68kg and the kumite Individual Female Senior +68kg divisions, the 18 year-old won two bronze medals at the Canadian National Karate Championships in Quebec.

Liam Moffat has been named the Cleve’s Source for Sports Male Individual Athlete of the Month. The 19 year-old snowboarder had a strong performance at the 2017 FIS Jr. World Championships in Klinovec, Czech Republic. The Truro native placed 10^th in the snowboard cross event. Liam is currently a member of the Canadian National Development Team.

Tarah Sawler of Waverley has been named the Cleve’s Source for Sports Female Team Athlete of the Month. Sawler, 18, and the Nova Scotia Women’s Goalball team secured a silver medal at the 33^rd Annual USABA Midwest Regional Goalball Tournament in Warren, Michigan. In addition to providing solid defense, Tarah tallied 10 goals through the tournament.

Also competing at the 33^rd Annual USABA Midwest Regional Goalball Tournament was February’s Cleve’s Source for Sports Male Team Athlete of the Month. As a member of the Nova Scotia Men’s Goalball team, Oliver Pye of Dartmouth lead the team in scoring with 18 goals. Team Nova Scotia placed 4^th in the Elite Division.

Cleve’s Source for Sports Team of the Month honours has been awarded to the Nova Scotia U19AA Provincial Ringette Team for their performance at the Atlantic Ringette Championships in Charlottetown. The team secured a gold medal after a come-from-behind 3-2 win over the New Brunswick U19AA team. Team Nova Scotia will travel to Alberta at the end of this month to compete at the Canadian Ringette Championships.

The Athlete of the Month program is administered by Sport Nova Scotia, whose members are eligible to nominate athletes for the awards. A membership committee selects the award recipients for five possible categories: Male Individual Athlete, Female Individual Athlete, Male Team Athlete, Female Team Athlete, and Team.
