The 14th annual East-West Bowl, featuring for the most part CIS players heading into their Canadian Football League draft year, is set for Saturday at 1 p.m. at McGill University’s Percival Molson Memorial Stadium in Montreal, streamed live on CIS-SIC.tv.
Acadia defensive back Harland Hastings was outstanding early on, finishing first overall in both the vertical jump (38’) and the broad jump (10’4”).
Queen’s running back Jonah Pataki (37’) and Guelph defensive back Orion Edwards (37’) rounded out the podium in the vertical, while Waterloo defensive back Jordan Hoover (10’4”) edged four different players by one inch for second place in the broad jump.
In the bench press, Jean-Simon Roy, an offensive lineman from Laval, and Sam Narkaj, a defensive lineman from Concordia, impressed with 36 repetitions of 225 pounds apiece. Montreal linebacker Alex Cromer-Émond was third with 31 reps.
In the 40-yard dash, Calgary defensive back Robert Woodson clocked 4.52 seconds to finish ahead of Montreal kicker Félix Ménard-Brière (4.55) and Carleton defensive back Nathaniel Hamlin (4.56).
In the shuttle run, another kicker, Ottawa’s Lewis Ward, showed his speed with a scintillating winning time of 3.99 seconds. Montreal defensive back Samuel Drapeau was a close second in 4.01, two hundredths of a second quicker than a trio of competitors.
Finally, in the three-cone drill, Ménard-Brière capped a solid day of testing for kickers, clocking 6.84 seconds to edge a pair of wide receivers, Regina’s Mitchell Picton (6.87) and Laval’s Félix Lechasseur (6.93).
