Chartier wins Gold at Trampoline Gymnastics World Age Group Competition
GYMNASTICS CANADA – SOFIA, BUL (November 18, 2017) – Jérémy Chartier of Montreal, QC won the gold medal in the men’s 15 to 16 age group individual trampoline competition at the 2017 Trampoline Gymnastics World Age Group Competition in Sofia, Bulgaria on Saturday.
In the finals, Chartier performed a flawless routine, scoring 57.050 points and putting him in the top position. Chartier entered the finals in third position following an optional routine in the preliminaries with lots of travel on the trampoline bed.
“With the hard year I had overcoming injuries, it’s so satisfying to have such incredible results and finish on top of the podium,” said Chartier with the gold medal around his neck. “The feeling is indescribable, there are so many incredible gymnasts in my age group who are only going to continue to improve.”
This is the second time Chartier has won his age group at the international competition, winning gold in the 13 to 14 age group at the 2015 competition in Denmark.
Chartier’s victory follows his Virtuose Centre Acrobatique teammate, Sophiane Méthot, who was on the podium last week at the World Championships, winning the bronze medal at the senior competition.
“I was inspired when Sophiane won her medal last week. Seeing her win the bronze medal, I was motivated to try my best and have great results,” said Chartier following competition. “Moving from the 13 – 14 age group to the 15 – 16 age group, all the athletes are so much stronger and experienced. In 2015, I arrived with no expectations, I just wanted to perform my best possible routine and see what happened. This year, I had some more pressure on myself to perform well, but I just wanted to finish off the season well and I’m happy with the results.”
“I’m really happy for him to have won gold today,” said Chartier’s coach Karina Kosko. “It shows how consistent he is despite the great competition in his age group and I think he will have a great future in this sport.”
