Championship Website Now Live Online Streaming Brings Action to National Audience
Aboriginal Sport Circle – November 19, 2018 (Whitehorse, YT) – In less than six months, some of the country’s best midget aged Aboriginal athletes will be hitting the ice in Whitehorse for the 2019 National Aboriginal Hockey Championships (NAHC).
The 2019 NAHC Host Committee launched the official website today, as well as the event’s social media channels. The website, which was designed by Indigenous-owned technology company Animikii, includes event information as well as travel details for visitors. During the championship, the website will feature a live stream of all games, as well as live scoring and statistics.
The live streaming will be done by SportsCanada.TV and will be available across the country at no charge to viewers.
“We’re excited to share this website with participants, spectators, volunteers and visitors, as we start the six-month countdown to the championships,” stated Michelle Dawson-Beattie, Chair of the 2019 NAHC. “These championships are a great opportunity to showcase our athletes and our territory on the national stage, while providing members of our community the chance to watch competitive, fast-paced hockey.”
More than 600 participants from across Canada are expected to take part in the 2019 NAHC, which will start May 6th at both the Canada Games Centre and Takhini Arena. The Aboriginal Sport Circle will release the 2019 NAHC schedule after the team registration deadline, set for November 30th.
Yukon athletes will have the opportunity to participate as members of Team North, combined with the Northwest Territories and Nunavut. Hockey Yukon and the Yukon Aboriginal Sport Circle will work together to identify athletes in Whitehorse and the communities who are eligible to try out for the team.
