Rowing Canada Aviron – VICTORIA, B.C. – Wednesday, June 14, 2017 – Through ParticipACTION’s 150 Playlist, Canadians have been invited to try new sports and activities, celebrating the country’s 150th anniversary. As one of the sports voted onto the list, Rowing Canada Aviron (RCA) has partnered with ParticipACTION to celebrate rowing, support member clubs and associations and increase awareness and participation.

On Saturday, July 15, RCA invites PRAs and clubs to promote how their members stay active with rowing to celebrate National Rowing Day – whether it’s with first-timers at a Come and Try event, experienced racers at a local regatta or recreational athletes out for a row! RCA encourages members and clubs to share their experience on the water on social media with the hashtag #ROW150.

The recent launch of the Come and Try program supports increased opportunities for Canadians to experience rowing in safe and fun environments. To celebrate the program launch and Canada’s 150th birthday, RCA will waive the application fee of $50 for all clubs able to host their own Come and Try event on Saturday, July 15. To apply for a Come and Try program, please register here.

Canadians are being encouraged on July 15 to enjoy rowing – check out programs at a local rowing club, give a Come and Try event or Learn to Row class a try or volunteer at a local regatta! Weekends are exciting and active at the over 140 clubs across the country and people of all ages, experience and ability can take part.

To celebrate National Rowing Day and in partnership with ParticipACTION, RCA will be distributing funds to five participating clubs to develop their Come and Try program via a draw. The deadline for clubs to enter for a chance to win a $500 grant is July 12 at 12:00 p.m. PT.

To enter, clubs must register their event on RCA’s website. This includes all events – from recreational programs to participating or running regattas. Clubs can also promote their event on ParticipACTION’s 150 Play List directory.
