CCAA – Wildcard berths have been determined for the upcoming Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association soccer season.

The Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) and Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) will receive wildcard entries to the 2017 CCAA Men’s Soccer National Championship. The tournament will be hosted by Vancouver Island University in Nanaimo, BC, Nov. 8-11.

Meanwhile, the Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec (RSEQ) and ACAC have earned wildcard berths to the 2017 CCAA Women’s Soccer National Championship. The tournament will be jointly hosted by Dalhousie Agricultural Campus and the University of King’s College in Halifax, NS, Nov. 8-11.

CCAA Men’s & Women’s Soccer National Championships consist of eight teams: Five provincial champions, two wildcards and the host.

The wildcard spots are awarded to CCAA member conferences based on their performance at National Championships over the past three years. Conferences awarded wildcard positions are eligible to send a second team to Nationals. A conference may not fill more than two spots at a CCAA national championship, which excludes the host conference from being eligible for wildcards.

On the men’s side, the Pacific Western Athletic Association (PACWEST) has accumulated more points than the ACAC, but the second wildcard spot was awarded to Alberta because the event is being hosted by an institution in British Columbia.

Last fall, at Collège Ahuntsic in Montreal, the wildcard Douglas Royals captured a bronze medal with a penalty kicks victory over the NAIT Ooks at the 2016 CCAA Women’s Soccer National Championship. On the men’s side, the wildcard Algonquin Thunder fell to the Capilano Blues in the bronze-medal match at Keyano College in Fort McMurray, AB.
