Equestrian Canada – Ottawa, ON, March 21, 2018 – Canadian athletes made a strong impression on the leaderboard during the tenth week of the Adequan Global Dressage Festival (AGDF), held March 14-18, 2018 in Wellington, FL.

Brittany Fraser-Beaulieu of Saint-Bruno, QC added to a remarkable AGDF record with her first win at the CDI 4* level, and a new personal best, with All In (Tango x Damiro), the 13-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding she co-owns with her father, Craig Fraser and husband, Marc-Andre Beaulieu. The duo topped the Grand Prix on March 15 with a score of 71.957% to qualify for the Grand Prix Special.

“To win my first 4* with a personal best of 71.957% was a very big achievement for All In and myself,” said Fraser-Beaulieu. “Every time I canter down centreline, All In is improving and our scores are reflecting that. I look forward to representing Canada at the Nations Cup in Wellington next weekend.”

Megan Lane of Loretto, ON also produced great results in the big tour with her 2015 Toronto Pan American Games partner, Caravella (Contango x Riverman), a 17-year-old Dutch Warmblood mare she co-owns with her mother, Cathy Lane and sister, Kelsey Lane. The veteran pair won the CDI 3* Grand Prix Special on March 17, earning a score of 71.617% from the judges. Lane and Caravella also earned second place in the CDI 3* Grand Prix on March 15, with a mark of 71.000%.

“Caravella is at the top of her game,” said Lane. “It’s an outstanding feeling, and I am proud of and excited about where we are today. Deer Ridge Equestrian and I work very diligently to produce top horses in the sport and I have enjoyed every step of the journey with these partners. I would also like to thank my sponsors, Albion Saddlery and Omega Alpha.”

Belinda Trussell of Stouffville, ON finished right behind Lane in the CDI 3* Grand Prix Special, taking second place with a score of 70.340% aboard her 15-year-old Westphalian gelding, Tattoo 15 (Tuareg x Ramiro’s Son).

The CDI 4* Grand Prix Freestyle followed on March 17 and marked a special occasion for Canadian Olympians, Jacqueline Brooks of Cedar Valley, ON and D Niro (D-Day x Napoleon 625), a 19-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding owned by Mary Brooks and Brookhaven Dressage Inc. Although Brooks and D Niro have plans to compete at the CDI level in Canada this coming summer, the Freestyle represented their final competition together outside of Canada.

Their inspiring story together travels back nearly a decade, and includes the 2012 London Olympics and the 2013 FEI World Cup Dressage Final. In addition, Brooks and D Niro (fondly called Goose) are renowned for their moving freestyle performances, making them a crowd favourite across North America and around the world. Their performance at AGDF 10, set to an acoustic cover of Simon and Garfunkel’s The Sound of Silence by Disturbed certainly met expectations, inspiring a standing ovation from the crowd.

“What a night,” Brooks said of the performance, which garnered a score of 70.600% for sixth place. “Thank you to every single person that has been a part of this amazing journey. Last night was the highlight of my life!”
