Canadians set course record and have strong performances at the 57th Nautique US Masters
Water Ski and Wakeboard Canada – OTTAWA, ON – Finishing the tournament with 8 medals and one course record, Water Ski and Wakeboard Canada is pleased to congratulate our Canadian athletes on a very successful 57th Nautique US Masters, Callaway Gardens, Georgia, May 27-29, 2016.
By invitation only, the US Masters is one of the most prestigious events of the season. With their sights set on capturing a coveted Masters win, the Canadians dominated on the water.
In Junior Masters action, fourteen-year-old Neilly Ross claimed her second Masters Junior Women’s Tricks win breaking her previous course record with a score of 9,920 points, followed by Paige Rini who claimed a third place finish.
In slalom action, Paige Rini claimed a second place finish, with Jaimee Bull taking third.
In Junior Women’s Jump, great conditions saw Dominique Grondin-Allard take the title jumping 142 feet (43.2m).
Competing in all three events and scoring consistently earned Paige Rini a second place finish in the Junior Masters Women’s Overall title.
In Men’s action, in a heated final round of Men’s Slalom action, Jason McClintock and Stephen Neveu, both finished at 4 @ 39, with Jason capturing third, based on his prelim performance.
In a tightly fought Men’s Jump final, Ryan Dodd finished second, jumping 233 feet (70.9m), just edged out of the win by Freddy Krueger (USA) flying 233 feet (71.1m) for the win.
Capping off a successful tournament, four Canadian junior athletes were also recognized with the following awards:
- Neilly Ross – In His Wake Scholarship Award
- Jaimee Bull – In His Wake Heart of a Champion Award
- Dominique Grondin Allard – Rocketman Award
- Paige Rini – Nautique Junior Masters Scholarship Award
“I am truly proud of how our athletes performed” says National Team Head Coach Steve Bush. “Our athletes had to meet or exceed Canadian records to get to this level of competition and they have reaffirmed Canada’s position as a force to beat. This is a special team and I am so proud of their accomplishments both on and off the water.”
