Canadians reach semifinals at diving Grand Prix
Diving – GOLD COAST, Australia – Ethan Pitman and Tyler Henschel, both of Edmonton, reached the semifinals on men’s 10-metre tower on Friday at the eighth and final stop on the FINA Grand Prix circuit in diving.
Pitman ranked fifth in the morning preliminaries with 382.35 points while Henschel was ninth at 329.50. The top-12 advanced to the semis.
In the semis, both Canadians were in the same six-man grouping. Pitman blew his opening inward dive and just fell short in his bid to climb back into the top-three to qualify for the final. He ranked fourth for seventh overall
Henschel couldn’t duplicate his prelims performance and was sixth in the semi for 11th overall.
Competition continues Saturday with the women’s tower final featuring Celina Toth of St. Thomas, Ont., and the men’s three-metre final with Peter Thach Mai of Montreal.
