Canadians Hit it Big at Adequan Global Dressage Festival 3

Canadian dressage and para-dressage athletes earned a bevy of above-70% scores during the third week of the Adequan Global Dressage Festival (AGDF), held Jan. 27-31, 2021, in Wellington, FL.

Brittany Fraser-Beaulieu of Saint-Bruno, QC, proved that she continues to be one to watch aboard her veteran partner, All In (Tango x Damiro), whom she co-owns with her father, Craig Fraser, and husband, Marc-Andre Beaulieu. In Jan. 29’s CDI 4* Grand Prix (Qualifier for the Grand Prix Special), Fraser-Beaulieu and the 16-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding captured second with 71.891%. The next day, they placed third in the CDI 4* Grand Prix Special on a score of 71.553%

“I feel very fortunate to be able to compete during these difficult times. Adequan Global Dressage Festival has made a very safe and welcoming environment for us all,” said Fraser-Beaulieu. “I was very pleased with All In this past weekend in the 4*. To start the 2021 season with over 71% in both days is very exciting. All In was very excited to be back in the ring, which caused a couple of costly mistakes in the Special. We will continue to train and will be back in the competition ring in two weeks.”

Fraser-Beaulieu was joined by Lindsay Kellock on the AGDF 3 CDI 4* leaderboard. The Toronto, ON, native and Sebastien (Sandro Hit x Fidermark), a 15-year-old Rheinländer gelding Kellock co-owns with Enterprise Farm Equestrian, LLC, earned a pair of second-place finishes: they scored 68.739% in a separate Grand Prix class on Jan. 29 held as a qualifier for the Grand Prix Freestyle, followed by a Freestyle score of 74.575% on Jan. 31.

“I was very happy with Sebastien at AGDF 3,” said Kellock. “It was our first time back in the international ring in 10 months, so we had a few rusty moments in the Grand Prix but overall many improvements from last season, especially in our passage, piaffe and pirouettes. I am very grateful to be able to keep competing through these difficult times and excited for what’s to come with this talented horse.”

In the CPEDI 3* Grade III competition at AGDF 3, Canadian Paralympian Lauren Barwick of Reddick, FL, dazzled with Lee Garrods’ Sandrino (Spirit of Westfalia x Pavarotti).

Barwick and the nine-year-old Westphalian have never scored below 69% at an FEI competition since their partnership began in late 2019. To keep their streak alive, they scored 71.520% for second in the Team Test on Jan. 28, followed by a third-place score of 69.265% in Jan. 29’s Individual Championship. The next day, Barwick and Sandrino hit a personal best of 76.367% to take top honours in the Freestyle. The pair’s consistency in the ring has boosted Barwick to sixth place in the FEI Para-Dressage World Individual Ranking for Grade III.

Les athlètes canadiennes de dressage et de paradressage ont affiché une kyrielle de notes dépassant les 70 % durant la troisième semaine de l’Adequan Global Dressage Festival (AGDF) qui se déroulait du 27 au 31 janvier 2021 à Wellington (Floride).

La magnifique progression de Brittany Fraser-Beaulieu de Saint-Bruno (Québec) et de son cheval All In (Tango x Damiro) se poursuit cette année. Ce sont deux complices à surveiller de près puisque le 29 janvier, ils se voyaient déjà octroyer 71,891 % (2e place) pour leur reprise de Grand Prix CDI4*, une épreuve qualificative en vue du Grand Prix Spécial du lendemain, où ils ont récolté un résultat de 71,553 % (3e place). La cavalière, son père, Craig Fraser, et son mari, Marc-André Beaulieu, sont copropriétaires du Warmblood hollandais de 16 ans.

« Je m’estime très privilégiée de pouvoir concourir en ces temps difficiles. Bien que l’AGDF ait mis en place des mesures de sécurité, l’accueil était des plus chaleureux », observe l’athlète. « Je suis très satisfaite de ce que mon cheval a réalisé le weekend dernier au niveau quatre-étoiles. Il est très encourageant de recevoir des notes dépassant les 71 % en début de saison. All In a fait preuve de beaucoup d’enthousiasme lors de notre retour à la compétition, ce qui nous a coûté quelques points au Grand Prix Spécial, mais l’entraînement se poursuit et vous nous reverrez dans deux semaines. »

Lindsay Kellock, une cavalière originaire de Toronto (Ontario), a aussi inscrit son nom au tableau d’honneur du CDI4* de l’AGDF 3. Aux commandes de Sebastien (Sandro Hit x Fidermark), un Rheinlander de 15 ans qu’elle possède en copropriété avec Enterprise Farm Equestrian, LLC, l’athlète s’est offert deux secondes places. Le 29 janvier, elle a reçu 68,739 % au Grand prix de qualification pour la reprise libre du 31 janvier, où elle a été récompensée de la superbe note de 74,575 %.

« Sebastien et moi étions très heureux au AGDF 3 », explique la cavalière. « Il s’agissait de notre premier concours international depuis 10 mois. Nous avons donc vécu quelques défis au Grand Prix, mais en général, nous nous sommes bien améliorés, en particulier au niveau du passage, du piaffer et des pirouettes. Je suis reconnaissante de pouvoir concourir en ces temps difficiles et je suis très enthousiaste à l’idée de continuer à travailler avec ce cheval talentueux. »

L’athlète paralympique canadienne Lauren Barwick de Reddick (Floride) a ébloui les juges dans la catégorie « grade III » du CPEDI 3*, avec sa monture Sandrino (Spirit of Westfalia x Pavarotti).

Depuis que la cavalière a choisi de s’associer, vers la fin de l’année 2019, au Westphalien de neuf ans de Lee Garrods, sa moyenne n’a jamais été inférieure à 69 % dans le cadre des reprises FEI. Le 28 janvier, elle a poursuivi sur cette lancée en enregistrant 71,520 % (2e place) au terme de la reprise par équipe. Le lendemain, elle obtenait 69,265 % (3e place) dans la reprise de championnat en individuel. Le jour suivant, lors de la reprise libre, elle réussissait son meilleur résultat à vie, soit 76,367 %, le tout assorti des grands honneurs de l’épreuve. Grâce à la continuelle excellence de ses résultats, Lauren Barwick est désormais au sixième rang du classement mondial FEI des athlètes de la catégorie « grade III » en paradressage.
