Rowing Canada Aviron – National para-rowing team to compete in Poznan, Poland

VICTORIA, Tuesday, June 14, 2016 – Rowing Canada Aviron (RCA) confirmed the five athletes who will make up the LTA mixed coxed four (LTAMix4+) at World Rowing Cup III. Competition begins on Thursday, June 16 in Poznan, Poland with the LTAMix4+ finals to be held on Saturday. Full schedule and entry list can be found on worldrowing.com.

“Since qualifying for Rio last summer, the LTAMix4+ has continued to show their strong determination during training and commitment to performance,” said Peter Cookson, High Performance Director, RCA. “World Cup 3 is a vital opportunity for them to demonstrate the hard work they have put in during the winter and to work on the things that will lead to success in Rio in a few months time.”

The season began with a fifth-place finish in April at the Gavirate International Regatta. Canada qualified the mixed coxed four at the 2015 World Rowing Championships in Aiguebelette, France in September with a third-place finish.

“Our group has had a vigorous winter of training,” said Kristen Kit, LTA mixed coxed four. “The athletes all worked incredibly hard to learn new technique and improve physiology. Having just completed selection for the World Cup Regatta, we are all very excited to test out a new lineup. Our goal is to have the best series of races possible through the regatta. We know the strong field of entries will provide us the chance to gauge our speed in advance of the Paralympic Games.”

The team of athletes competing at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games will be announced at the end of July by RCA and the Canadian Paralympic Committee.

Canada has qualified seven boats for the Olympic Games and one for the Paralympic Games. RCA, alongside the Canadian Olympic Committee, will announce the team of athletes competing at the Rio 2016 Olympics on Tuesday, June 28 in Toronto. RCA will also host media availabilities at training camps in Guelph and London, Ontario on July 23. Details for all media events will be released closer to the date.
