Diving Plongeon Canada –KIEV, Ukraine – Laurent Gosselin-Paradis of Montreal and Nathan Zsombor-Murray of Pointe-Claire, Que., missed a berth on the podium by less than two points on Saturday to place fourth on men’s three-metre synchro at the FINA World Junior Diving Championships.
 
With one day of competition remaining the Canadians have a gold, bronze and three fourth place finishes.
 
Zheng Li and Junjie Lian of China won the gold medal with 328.44 points, Matthew Dixon and Noah Williams of Britain were second at 304.65 and Yevhen Naumenko and Oleh Serbin of Ukraine third at 302.76.
 
Gosselin-Paradis and Zsombor-Murray followed at 302.76. There were 14 entries.
 
‘’We can be really proud of our performance today,’’ said Zsombor-Murray. ‘’We started off slowly but cameback pretty good. Our optionals were really good and that helped up finish near the medals.’’
 
‘’This was our first international meet together and only the second overall so for us it was a success,’’ added Gosselin-Paradis.
 
On women’s three-metre in the 14-15 age group, Shiyun Lai of China was the winner, Hailey Hernandez of the U.S. second and Emilia Nilsson Garip of Sweden third.
 
Tatiana Conn of Calgary was ninth and reached finals on all three boards this week.
 
‘’I was disappointed with how I performed in the finals today,’’ said Conn, fourth in the preliminaries. ‘’But still this was a successful meet for me and I’m looking forward to taking another big step next season.’’
 
Competition ends Sunday.
