CANADIAN SPORT INSTITUTE PACIFIC’S CYCLING NEXTGEN PROGRAM HITS RECORD NEW HEIGHTS
Canadian Sport Institute Pacific -Victoria, BC – With a flurry of spectacular results and record-breaking performances, the Cycling NextGen program at Canadian Sport Institute Pacific is hitting previously unchartered territory.
At the 2016 Canadian Track Championships for in Milton, Ontario, April 1-3, Cycling NextGen riders hit a number of impressive marks:
- Victoria rider, Erin Attwell, 17, set the U19 women’s national record in Team Sprint (with teammate Maggie Coles-Lyster)
- Attwell also set the record in the 2000m Individual Pursuit (2:27.020) and set a Canadian record with her Gold medal in the 500m Time Trial (37.034)
- John Willcox, 17, also of Victoria, earned Silver in the 3000m Individual Pursuit (3:27.415), as well as Bronze in both the Keirin and Scratch races
With their performances, both Attwell and Willcox qualified for the 2016 UCI Junior Track Cycling World Championships Athlete Pool from July 20-24 in Aigle, Switzerland.
At the San Dimas stage race in California, another Cycling NextGen rider, Gillian Ellsay (Courtenay, 19), came 11th overall and won the U25 Overall Jersey.
The Cycling NextGen athletes are coached by CSI employee and coach, Jeff Ain. “Every athlete in the program has put so much work into their progression, both individually and as a group. It’s fantastic to see all this hard work pay off with fantastic results,” said Ain.

The Cycling NextGen program was created to support the implementation of Cycling Canada’s high performance development system in BC to ensure athletes and coaches are being trained to standards required to win Olympic, Paralympic and World Championship medals in the sport of cycling.
