Canadian Sport Institute Pacific – Victoria, BC – Canadian Sport Institute Pacific announced today that Dr. Jeremy Sheppard will be joining the Institute in the new position of Director, Performance Services, starting May 2016.  Dr. Sheppard brings over two decades of experience in high performance sport, both within Canada and internationally.

 

Since 2011, Dr. Sheppard has worked at Surfing Australia’s High Performance Centre as the Sport Science Manager and Head of Strength & Conditioning, a co-joint position he holds in partnership with Edith Cowan University.  Prior to joining Surfing Australia, he worked in strength coach and senior scientist positions with Olympians at Queensland Academy of Sport, Australian Institute of Sport, and Canadian Sport Centre, where he was hired by the late Dr. Gord Sleivert as one of the original staff for the Sport Centre.

Dr. Sheppard is a graduate of the Canadian National Coaching Institute diploma program (Strength and Conditioning)  and has an undergraduate degree (Human Movement), Masters (Sport Science) and PhD (Strength Science).  He is certified by the Australian Strength and Conditioning Association (ASCA) as a Level 3 coach, while being recognized by the ASCA as a Master Coach and by the National Strength and Conditioning Association as a Coach Emeritus.

 

Dr. Sheppard is also certified as a Level 2 Olympic Weightlifting coach, Medical Exercise Specialist, Specialist in Performance Nutrition, and a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist.  He has authored 10 book chapters and over 50 scientific and coach abstracts and manuscripts.

 

After completing his current work with Surfing Australia, Dr. Sheppard will join CSI Pacific full-time in spring 2016.
