Canadian Sport Institute Pacific – VICTORIA, B.C. – The Canadian Sport Institute Pacific (CSI Pacific), in partnership with the Pacific Institute for Sport Excellence (PISE), hosted a private function on Wednesday afternoon at PISE to celebrate local athletes who train at the regional centre in Victoria.

With only 57 days until the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, nearly a quarter of the athletes named to the Canadian Olympic team are CSI Pacific registered-athletes, including those who train regularly at PISE. One of the first sports announced to Canada’s Paralympic team, members of Wheelchair Rugby Canada were also on hand to celebrate the upcoming games.

“On behalf of all the staff at CSI Pacific, we want to wish athletes the best of luck ahead in Rio and to emphasize how fortunate we are to get to work day in and day out with such hard-working athletes …True North Strong”, said CSI Pacific Chief Executive Officer Wendy Pattenden.

“We are very proud to have provided the physical training environment and associated support at PISE for so many of the athletes and teams representing Canada in Rio”, said PISE Chief Executive Officer Robert Bettauer. “The PISE team will be in Rio in spirit cheering the athletes on to personal best performances in their quest to reach the Podium for our country!”

The event was attended by the Canada’s women’s sevens rugby team, Rowing Canada’s heavyweight men, Zak Madell and Travis Murao from Canada’s Wheelchair Rugby team, paratriathlete Stefan Daniel, and coaches from Cycling Canada and Triathlon Canada.

The Rio 2016 Olympics begin on Friday, August 5, followed by the Paralympics on Wednesday, September 7. Follow along with CSI Pacific on Facebook and Twitter for news and information about BC-based athletes competing at the games.
