Canadian Sport Institute Pacific – Canadian Sport Institute Pacific Affiliated Athletes Help Shatter Medal Record At Pyeongchang 2018 Paralympics

VICTORIA, BC – After Team Canada’s record setting Olympic Winter Games, the PyeongChang 2018 Canadian Paralympic Team followed suit, setting their own record for a Winter Games with an impressive 28 medals. This shatters their previous record of 19 medals in Vancouver 2010.

Canadian Sport Institute Pacific (CSI Pacific) affiliated athletes were certainly a major player in these results, with exceptional podium performances that contributed to this outstanding new record.

Of the 55 athletes representing Canada at these Paralympics, 22 train with Canadian Sport Institute Pacific or benefit from their programs and services.

CSI Pacific affiliated athletes:

·     Made up 40% of the Canadian Paralympic Team

·     Accounted for 50% of Canada’s Paralympic total medal count

CSI Pacific Strength & Conditioning Coach Kayla Dodson was at the PyeongChang Paralympic Games, working directly with Alpine Canada and the Canadian Para-Alpine skiers. These skiers set a record for Team Canada in Para-Alpine, taking home 10 medals from PyeongChang, 36% of the total medals won by Team Canada at these Paralympics.

With the 2018 Olympics and Paralympics now complete, Canada has finished with 57 medals total between both Games. This is the second most of any nation, behind the U.S.A., just two medals out of the top spot. While some countries have strong Olympic teams and others have strong Paralympic teams, Canada has proven that they in fact have both, demonstrating the strength of the Canadian sport system and high level of inclusivity within it.

Looking at both the PyeongChang Olympic and Paralympic Games, CSI Pacific affiliated athletes:

·     Made up 25% of Team Canada in PyeongChang

·     Won 40% of Canada’s 57 medals

Six staff members from Canadian Sport Institute Pacific went to the Olympics and Paralympics and each worked with a gold medal winner at the Games in South Korea.
