Canadian Paralympic Committee announces launch of “Find an Activity” online resource made possible by grant from Milos Raonic Foundation
Canadian Paralympic Committee – OTTAWA – Nov. 3, 2016 – The Canadian Paralympic Committee is pleased to announce that the pioneering “Find an Activity” online tool is now up and running, thanks to a $30,000 grant from the Milos Raonic Foundation to help more children with a disability get active in sports.
Available free of charge for everyone to use at Paralympic.ca/find-an-activity, the tool is designed to help Canadian parents and professionals from health, education, sport and recreation gain easy access to a multitude of resources, activity plans and providers. Resources can be sorted based on location, age, disability type and sport preferences, with the goal of expanding opportunities for children with a disability in sports programming, along with enhancing awareness of parasport.
The Milos Raonic Foundation harnesses resources in support of disadvantaged children and was established in 2012 by the Canadian tennis star.
“The Canadian Paralympic Committee would like to thank Milos Raonic and his Foundation for enabling the development of this pioneering online tool, which already has over 50 resources in its collection,” said Karen O’Neill, CEO of the Canadian Paralympic Committee. “As we celebrate Team Canada’s performances in Rio and look ahead to future Paralympic Games in PyeongChang, Tokyo, Beijing and beyond, we’re grateful for Milos’ support to help more children with a disability become active in sports and possibly spark the dream of competing for Team Canada.”
Raonic is the highest-ranked Canadian male player in the open era. He recently equaled his career-high Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) world No. 4 singles ranking in October 2016. His career highlights include a Grand Slam final at the 2016 Wimbledon Championships. In 2015, Raonic won the Lionel Conacher Award for the second year in a row as Canada’s male athlete of the year.
The Milos Raonic Foundation’s mandate is to support initiatives intended to reduce economic, physical and other barriers that might prevent the full integration of all children in the lives of their communities.
“I’m very pleased to see that the Find an Activity tool has been successfully launched and is now helping increase participation in parasport,” said Raonic. “I encourage Canadians to check out this resource and to spread the word among their networks so that more children with a disability can experience the many benefits of becoming active in sports, such as friendship, confidence and fitness.”
