Registration is now open for the 2017 Canadian Pentathlon Championships being held in Calgary, Alberta on July 7, 8 and 9. The full program can be viewed online at canadianpentathlonchampionships.ca and registration can be completed on the Pentathlon Alberta website pentathlonalberta.com. Regular registration is open until June 14 with the final registration deadline being June 25.

The Canadian Pentathlon Championships website provides an online version of the program as well as tourist information. Information on the horses for the competition will be on the website Friday, July 7 and the same information will be distributed at the competition venue.

The championships have something for everyone. The Saturday of the event offers categories for all athletes including the full pentathlon, a tetrathlon and single sport events. The day will conclude with a banquet at the Gobi Grill on the grounds of Rocky Mountain Show Jumping. The banquet is open to athletes, friends and family members, with the cost of the dinner being included for pentathletes and tetrathletes in their entry fee. The following day will be the much-anticipated relay. Friends and family members of the athletes will get a chance to try out fencing, swimming and the laser-run on mixed teams with athletes from the previous day. All participants will compete in the three events alongside their teammates with medals awarded at the end of the day. Equipment for fencing and the laser-run can be provided if needed.

The Championships are a qualifier for the National Pentathlon team as well as for the upcoming Youth Olympics. Athletes from across Canada and select international athletes will be competing.

Spectators are welcome for all events throughout the weekend. The event committee is still looking to fill some volunteer roles. If you are interested in volunteering for the event, please contact Claire Laing at clairelaing@gmail.com.
