Canadian Fencing Federation – Several Canadians were in action at the 2017 NCAA Fencing Championships this past weekend in Indianapolis, Indiana.  The event which features several top ranked fencers in the World, is a marathon of fencing.

Canadian Alanna Goldie (Calgary, AB) earned silver in women’s foil for Ohio State University.  Goldie was fourth with 19 victories and plus 58 after the marathon round robin.  She faced the event’s number one ranked Margaret Lu from Columbia in the semi-final and came away with the victory 15-13.  Goldie then faced the world number one ranked fencer, Lee Kiefer from Notre Dame in the final and lost 15-9.  It was Goldie’s fourth medal in individual women’ foil.  She won bronze three times and finished off her NCAA career with a silver medal.

Goldie’s teammate Eleanor Harvey (Hamilton, ON) also brought home hardware for Ohio State.  Harvey came third after the round robin with 19 victories and plus 62. She faced USA’s Lee Kiefer in her semi-final bout and lost 15-7 to take home bronze.  It was Harvey’s second medal in the Championship. She earned gold in 2016.

Fares Arfa (Laval, QC), also at Ohio State University, won bronze in men’s sabre.  Arfa finished an impressive second with 21 victories in the round robin.  He faced Ziad Elsissy from Wayne State in the semi-final and lost 15-7 to finish third overall.  He was fifth in 2016.

Other Canadians who qualified for the NCAA Championships include the 2016 silver medalist Marc-Antoine Blais-Belanger (Montreal, QC) who finished 9^th in Men’s Epee fencing for Ohio State, Dylan French (Richmond, BC) from Notre Dame who finished 13^th in Men’s Epee and Emma Von Dadelszen (Vancouver, BC) from Ohio State who finished 23^rd in women’s epee.
