Bowls Canada Boulingrin – Following a fantastic outdoor championship season, bowlers are back on the greens to compete at the Canadian Indoor Singles Championships.

Many familiar names will be in attendance including defending women’s champion Pricilla Westlake of Delta, British Columbia. Following last year’s national title win, Westlake made her debut at the World Indoor Cup where she took the competition by storm. Defeating former and current World and Commonwealth medallists, Westlake finished the competition with a fourth place bronze medal. This year, fresh off a very successful North American Challenge tournament, the twenty-one year old Westlake is looking for a solid performance on the indoor surface prior to departing to compete at the 2016 World Bowls Championships as part of Team Canada. Fans will also recognize repeat contenders Claire Day of Edmonton, Alberta, as well as hometown favourites Josephine Lee and Diane Fulton.

On the men’s side, defending champion Vince Mai of Vancouver, British Columbia is looking to repeat his victory from last year. 2014 Champion John Bjornson of Winnipeg, Manitoba will also be on the hunt for a return trip to the World Indoor Cup.  Following this year’s Indoor Singles, Bjornson will be representing Canada at the 2016 World Champion of Champions.  “It will be a great warm-up for the World Champion of Champions.  The pace of the indoor green is the closest thing we have in Canada to the pace that I will be facing in Helensvale, Australia.”

The 2016 Canadian Indoor Singles Championships will take place at the Pacific Indoor Bowls Club (PIBC), located in Vanouver. Play begins on Monday October 31st with medal matches scheduled for Saturday November 5th. There are eleven women and twelve men that will battle it out to take top prize and represent Canada at the 2017 World Cup in Warilla, Australia.
