The RCA High Performance Program confirmed the Canadian crews to compete at the FISA World Rowing Cup 1 in Belgrade, Serbia. Seven crews, including six Olympians, will represent Canada from June 1-3 in the first World Cup event of the 2018 season.

“It’s wonderful to have such solid Canadian crews competing at the World Rowing Cup,” said RCA High Performance Director, Iain Brambell. “We are sending our top performers to ensure we have an international benchmark within our 2018 Speed Order – National Team Selection Trials to be held in London, Ontario.” 

RCA will announce the FISA World Rowing Cup 3 crews to compete in Lucerne following the June Speed Orders and National Team Selection Trials held in London, Ontario from June 22-24th. The 2018 RCA World Rowing Championships Team will be named in August 2018.  

“As we prepare to select and send crews to the World Rowing Cup 3 (Lucerne) and the 2018 World Championships in Plovdiv, we will continue to make some exciting adjustments within the HP program to best position the team for podium performances in 2020.”

The regatta has attracted athletes from 42 countries and the events being raced include the 14 Olympic boat classes, three international boat classes and four para-rowing boat classes.

 “We are all really looking forward to seeing our athletes out on the water testing themselves against the best in the World,” said RCA CEO Terry Dillon. “It will be good to find out where we stand. We wish them all the best. “

Racing begins on June 1 at 9:00 CET with heats for International and Olympic boat classes. Racing then progresses through repechages and semifinals to the finals which will be raced over two days – Saturday June 2nd in the afternoon and Sunday June 3rd.
There will be live video streaming of the A-finals on www.worldrowing.com.
