Commonwealth Games Canada – June 13, 2018 – Commonwealth Games Canada would like to Call for Nominations for the 2018 Canadian Commonwealth Sport Awards in the Sport Excellence category for both Athlete and Coach Awards!

SPORT EXCELLENCE ATHLETE AWARD recognizes and celebrates outstanding athletic performances of individual athletes, an entire team, or an individual athlete within a team sport if their contributions are exemplary and warrant special recognition apparent from the remainder of the team. The athletes must have competed in the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast.  The athlete/team must be a member in good standing with their respective National Sport Organization (NSO).

SPORT EXCELLENCE COACH AWARD recognizes and celebrates outstanding coaching performance of an individual or coaching team. The coach(es) must have been responsible for the full-time training of a 2018 Commonwealth Games Canada athlete or team. (The nominee may or may not have attended the 2018 Games).  The coach must be a member in good standing with his or her respective National Sport Organization (NSO). 

If you are interested in nominating a 2018 Commonwealth Games Athletes and /or Coach to be considered for the 2018 Canadian Commonwealth Sport Awards, please complete and submit the attached Nominations Application to kelly@commonwealthgames.ca by 4:00pm ET on Monday, July 9, 2018.

The recipient(s) and a guest will be invited to the Awards Banquet to be held on September 29, 2018 in Toronto, Ontario.

• Nominations should be as detailed as possible.  Please include:
• a letter of support from the National Sport Organization
• a current photo of the nominated person/team
• All costs relating to the nomination are the responsibility of the nominator(s).
• Nominations must be emailed to kelly@commonwealthgames.ca, by 4:00p.m. ET on MONDAY JULY 9, 2018. Only nominations received by this deadline will be considered.
• All nomination packages will be acknowledged by reply email on the date received.  If you do not receive this acknowledgement, please contact the CGC office staff by 4:30p.m. on the following business day.
• Only completed nomination forms will be submitted to CGC’s Awards and Recognition Committee.
• CGC’s Awards & Recognition Committee is comprised of individual members from across Canada.  In considering nominations, the Committee may:
• verify any information submitted
• seek further information on the nominee(s)

• Support of or contribution to other athletes and/or team members through leadership/mentoring; and
• Special recognition and awards received (i.e. Flag Bearer, Sportsmanship Awards).

This award recognizes and celebrates outstanding coaching performance of an individual or coaching team. The coach(es) must have been responsible for the full-time training of a 2018 Commonwealth Games Canada athlete or team. (The nominee may or may not have attended the 2018 Games).  The coach must be a member in good standing with his or her respective National Sport Organization (NSO).

All nominations will be scored against the following criteria:

• Coach Performance: Commonwealth Games Athlete Results (total medals won, records set (personal best, Commonwealth Games or World), top 8 finishes)
• Support of or contribution to development of the coaching profession through leadership/mentoring; and
• Special recognition, awards received, length of time involved in coaching.

GENERAL ELIGIBILITY

• Nominees must be Canadian citizen(s)
• Nominations will not be accepted for previous recipients of the same category.
