Canada’s Slopestyle Athletes to Ski on Home Soil for First Time!

Freestyle Canada – Quebec City, QC, February 7, 2017 – Slopestyle and big air athletes will compete in the first-ever FIS Freestyle Ski World Cup in Quebec City, from February 9 to 12, as part of the Jamboree. For Canadian athletes, it will be a unique opportunity to strut their stuff on home soil as this will be the first and only slopestyle stop on the World Cup circuit in Canada.
 
David Mirota, VP Sport, Freestyle Canada, says that hosting the World Cup in Canada confers an undeniable advantage. “Since we’re the host country, it will allow more of our next gen slopestyle athletes to take part in the competition giving them a unique occasion to measure themselves against the best in the discipline.”
 
A double program is on tap for the men competing in both the big air and slopestyle events. The giant structure in Quebec City’s St-Roch district, 39 metres high and 91 metres long, will be the launch pad for athletes doing battle on February 11 in the evening. The slopestyle finals will take them to Stoneham on the afternoon of February 12, where the women will also compete.
 
The event is particularly meaningful for Quebecers Kim Lamarre, Anouk Purnelle-Faniel and Alex Beaulieu-Marchand. “I’m excited that the World Cup is stopping in my town,” enthused Kim Lamarre, bronze medallist in the Sochi Olympics. “It will be incredible to ski in front of family and friends.” Attention is sure to also focus on Alex Beaulieu-Marchand after his last slopestyle performance, which earned him a bronze at the X Games in Aspen, his first X Games medal.
