Figure Skating – TALLINN, Estonia – Roman Sadovsky of Vaughan, Ont., landed a quad Salchow and a triple Axel in combination en route to the silver medal on Saturday in men’s competition to conclude the sixth stop on the ISU Junior Grand Prix figure skating circuit.

It was Canada’s first medal this season on the circuit and a third career podium appearance for the 17-year-old Sadovsky.

Alexander Samarin of Russia won the gold medal with 234.29 points. Sadovsky, third after the short program, fell on his first triple Axel attempt but had a successful second try later on to follow at 221.21, a season’s best. Vincent Zhou of the U.S. was third at 213.92.

Samuel Turcotte of Varennes, Que., was 13th.

In ice dancing, Russian couples were 1-2 with Alla Loboda and Pavel Drozd earning their second victory this season with 157.01. Anastasia Skoptcova and Kirill Aleshin were second at 148.45 and Chloe Lewis and Logan Bye of the U.S. third at 132.13.

Hannah Whitley of Barrie, Ont., and Elliott Graham of Angus, Ont., remained fifth equalling their result at their previous Junior Grand Prix assignment in the Czech Republic last month.

Irina Galiyanova of Ajax, Ont., and Tommy Tang of Toronto completed their international debut in 11th spot.
