Canada’s Recurve Team continues a busy season with the first World Cup of 2019 April 23, 2019

April 23, 2019

Archery Canada - OTTAWA (Archery Canada) – With the team’s recent success at the 2019 Pan American Games qualifier, and the World Ranking Event in Santiago, Chile, Canada’s recurve archers have not had much time to rest as they prepared for the season’s first World Cup in Medellin, Colombia. Canada’s delegation is comprised of Virginie Chenier, as the sole woman, and four men, with Eric Peters*, Brian Maxwell, Crispin Duenas, and Hamilton Nguyen. This will be Eric Peters’ first  career World Cup.

This world cup serves as a critical element in the preparation for an early World Championships in the Netherlands from June 10-16 and is the first stage of the 2019 World Cup series. Canada’s team will compete in 4 out of the 5 Recurve events, including the mixed team event, an event which will see its first medal awarded at the Tokyo Olympic Games.  “We have invested significant time and effort to prepare our teams and feel good about our ability to compete for Olympic qualification at the Worlds,” suggests Alan Brahmst, High Performance Advisor. “In particular, we have been building depth on the men’s side and had a strong ranking round result in Santiago with a combined score of 2009, which places us in the top scores when compared to 2018 results. We will see what Medellin brings, but we feel good about our plans to put some strong results on the board during 2019”.

At this time, the host of the 2019 Hyundai Archery World Cup Final has not been announced, though this announcement is expected soon from World Archery. This year’s circuit of four World Cups has confirmed stops in Medellin, Shanghai and Antalya before a break for the Hyundai World Archery Championships in June, to be followed by the fourth to be held in Berlin in July.

The winner of each stop in the circuit earns an automatic ticket to the Hyundai Archery World Cup Final.
