Swimming Canada – AUSTIN, Texas – In a field that included the world champion and Olympic champion, Noemie Thomas of Richmond, B.C., won the bronze medal on Friday in the women’s 100-m butterfly to open the second stop on the U.S. Pro Swim Series circuit.

 

World champion Sarah Sjostrom of Sweden won the gold medal in 56.38 seconds with Olympic champion Dana Vollmer of the U.S. second in 57.61. Thomas, a finalist in the event at the last two world championships, followed in 58.38.

 

Santo Condorelli nearly collected a second medal for Canada placing fourth in the men’s 100-metre freestyle. Olympic champion Nathan Adrian of the U.S. was the winner in 48.91 with Jeremie Stravius of France second in 48.96 and Jimmy Feigen of the U.S. third in 49.20.

 

Feigen edged Condorelli, fourth at the world championships this past summer in Russia, by a mere 0.01 seconds (49.21), for the medal.

 

Chantal Van Landeghem of Winnipeg was eighth in the women’s 100-m freestyle.

 

Competition continues through to Sunday.
